Our Tartu shop holds over 200 wristwatches, and among them there is often a fair number of Soviet-era Russian makes: Raketa, Poljot, Slava and Pobeda. The whole selection is here at Kalda tee 30, and every watch has been checked by the master before it reaches the shelf.
Raketa, the legend of the Petrodvorets watch factory
Raketa wristwatches are made by the Petrodvorets watch factory near Saint Petersburg. The factory's history goes back to 1721, when Peter I founded it. The Raketa brand (Russian for "rocket") was born in the early 1960s, in honour of Yuri Gagarin's space flight.
Poljot, chronographs of the First Moscow watch factory
Poljot is the brand of the First Moscow watch factory, worn since 1964. The factory also produced the chronograph calibre 3133, which is based on model 7734 by the Swiss firm Valjoux. The Soviet Union acquired that production line in the 1970s.
Vostok (wostok), military watches from the Chistopol factory
Vostok (often written in Estonian usage in the German manner as wostok) has been the brand of the Chistopol watch factory since 1969. Its best known models include the military-style Komandirskie, introduced in 1965, and the water-resistant Amphibia that followed in 1967.
Slava, civilian watches from Moscow
Slava is the brand of the Second Moscow watch factory. The factory was founded in 1924 and, unlike several other Soviet watch factories, made mainly civilian watches.
Pobeda, the name of a calibre, not a factory brand
Unlike the brands above, Pobeda is not the name of one particular factory. It is the name of a calibre and model that was produced in parallel at several different Soviet watch factories, among them the Penza factory, the First Moscow watch factory and the Petrodvorets factory. Two Pobeda watches therefore do not necessarily carry the mark of the same factory.
